ABER TOWN’S SEASON OPENER- PLENTY OF POSITIVES

Aberystwyth Town FC lost away to champions TNS 2-1 in their first game of the Welsh Premier League on Sunday. Manager Matthew Bishop remained upbeat after the loss and stressed on the bigger picture that things at ATFC were moving in the right direction.

The highlight of the match was new arrival Chris Jones’s stunning 81st minute free-kick goal. Jones rightfully lived up to the hype with a solid performance that was capped off by his unstoppable strike to the top corner.

The hosts TNS did dominate the first half, during which they scored both their goals. This prompted the manager to go for a change in formation and Aberystwyth looked far more threatening, with some dangerous play down the wings after the break.

During the half-time talk, Bishop said that he simply asked the boys to keep working hard, close down the midfield and track back after attacks. He asked them to stay focused on all the things they had done right in their pre-season games.

Despite a spirited last 20 minutes, Aberystwyth could not equalize and had to leave Park Hall with zero points. However their second half-show would be a confidence booster for their next game against an equally tough opposition, Airbus Broughton.
