ABERYSTWYTH Town have made their second new addition this summer by signing established Welsh Premier League and former Wrexham wing-back Wes Baynes from Llandudno.

The Cambrian News reported “Baynes had worked his way through the academy at Wrexham to the first team ranks, making 74 appearances for the Dragons, before a loan spell with Altrincham. He then joined hometown club Chester, and after spells at Telford United and Colwyn Bay, he signed for Connah’s in September 2015.

After helping the Nomads into Europe and their highest-ever league position, he joined Airbus UK in 2017. After six months with the Wingmakers in the Cymru Alliance, but he returned to the Welsh Premier with Llandudno in January 2018.

The 29 year-old can play at right back or on the right wing, and has made over 70 Welsh Premier appearances, as well as playing four times in the Europa League for Connah’s Quay Nomads.

“Aberystwyth Town Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of established Welsh Premier League wing-back Wes Baynes from Llandudno,” said a club statement.

“Many of Town’s supporters may remember Wes for his standout performances in the Welsh Premier League in recent seasons, including his winning goal in the 2016 Play Off Final which saw Connah’s Quay Nomads beat Airbus UK Broughton to make it into the Europa League for the first time.

“Wes is also known for having a powerful and accurate right foot, and his experience will undoubtedly be a great strength going into the season ahead.

“Everyone at the club would like to wish Wes a warm welcome to Park Avenue, and will look forward to seeing him in action during Aber’s pre-season friendlies.”

The Seasiders have also signed Steff Edwards from Airbus, whilst keeper Chris Mullock and last season’s top scorer Declan Walker have committed for another season.

A pre-season friendly match against AFC Telford has been arranged for Friday, 27 July at 8pm, to follow the home friendly against Halesowen Town on 21 July” here.
