Cambrian News photographer - Members of Aberaid with Syrian families that have moved to Aberystwyth to avoid danger in their war-torn country

THE latest Syrian refugee family has been welcomed to Aberystwyth.

The Cambrian News reported “Aberaid, which has been raising money and collecting donations to assist refugees, has announced that the organisation’s community sponsorship refugee family have arrived in Aberystwyth and are settling in well.

Getting permission to bring the family to the UK has taken around 18 months with volunteers at Aberaid working tirelessly to raise the money and provide the support necessary to help the newly arrived family of five.

Lindsey Gaunt of Aberaid said: “We are delighted that finally after over a year of hard work our family is here and are settling in to life in Aberystwyth.

“It was a long hard year of bureaucracy for our group and at times we felt overwhelmed by the responsibility of applying to be community sponsors for vulnerable refugees fleeing the conflict in Syria, but we were determined to gain approval and do this, because we felt committed to this cause from the beginning, and because we knew that we had the huge support and generous backing of all of our supporters and the people who donated so much money to help us achieve this.

“We want to say thank you to everyone for all their support and kind donations, without which we wouldn’t be able to do this” here.
