CLASSICAL singing trio Athena come to Aberystwyth on Friday, 15 June, as part of their summer concert series.
The Cambrian News reported “The singers – sopranos Gwawr Edwards and Ellen Williams and mezzo soprano Sioned Terry – three sought-after Welsh artists that came together one evening in concert and were encouraged to continue to perform together, formed Athena and since then have been busy creating new arrangements, appearing on television and radio and laying down their arrangements in the studio.
Athena were delighted to perform at the Football Association of Wales awards evening at Hensol Castle, and after a successful concert with the tree Welsh tenors and their own headlining concert in Caernarfon’s Galeri recently, to which the audience gave a full standing ovation, they are now very much in demand.
Athena perform a wide range of repertoire ranging from crossover favourites to opera favourites to Celtic folk songs.
On 15 June at 7.30pm, Athena will perform at Morfa Chapel, Aberystwyth, as part of their summer concert series.
Supporting Athena will be the gifted singer and musician Steffan Rhys Hughes, who is a member of Only Men Aloud and former recipient of the Urdd’s Bryn Terfel Scholarship.
Also joining Athena will be the choirs of Ysgol Gymraeg Aberystwyth and Ysgol Rhos Helyg.
Proceeds from the evening, hosted by radio and television presenter Ifan Jones Evans, will be donated to Ty Gobaith children’s hospice.
