FORMER PLAID Cymru AM Simon Thomas has been re-bailed for a further 28 days following his arrest on suspicion of possessing indecent images last month.
Cambrian News reported “The Mid and West Wales AM resigned from both his position and the party with immediate effect following his arrest on 25 July – he also deleted his Facebook and Twitter accounts.
The 54-year-old father-of-two, who lives in Aberystwyth, was released on police bail for 28 days.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said today: “The individual from Aberystwyth who was arrested on suspicion of possessing incident images in July has been re-bailed for a further 28 days.”
At the time of Mr Thomas’s arrest, Plaid Cymru chairman Alun Ffred Jones said: “Plaid Cymru has received Simon Thomas’s resignation as a member of the party.
“We are aware of a police investigation into allegations of a serious offence.
“Due to that ongoing investigation it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time”.
Mr Thomas was elected to the House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for Ceredigion in 2000 and 2001.
After losing his seat to Mark Williams in 2005 he became a development manager with Technium in Pembrokeshire before becoming a special senior adviser to the Welsh Government.
He was elected to the National Assembly for Wales in 2011 and again in 2016″ here.
