A CHARITY fundraiser who is taking on a 330-mile cycle ride to raise money for a dementia charity set off from Aberystwyth on 25 June.
The Cambrian News reported “Peter Berry, who was diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s aged 50, will tackle the 330 miles between Aberystwyth and Aldeburgh in Suffolk in six days to raise money for YoungDementia UK.
Peter, is co-director of Dementia Help, an online resource which helps support dementia carers across the UK. He will be joined on the ride by Jan Dodd, who cares for her husband who has early Alzheimer’s, and on the last leg by Jon Bray, of sponsors Sax Velo, a Suffolk-based cycling retailer.
The ride started from Aberystwyth on Monday, 25 June, with Peter and Jan cycling the 52 miles to Welshpool on the first day.
Peter, 53, said: “I want people to understand Alzheimer’s and how it affects those who have the condition and their families.
“I know I only have a limited amount of time to do things before my health changes.
“I have been cycling for many years, but this will take me out of my comfort zone, which is a little scary but also exciting.
“I hope the Dementia Help Cycle Challenge will highlight that dementia is not just a disease of the elderly. We want to raise a lot of money for YoungDementia UK too.”
