A GIANT deckchair in the controversial sandpit on Aberystwyth’s promenade has been vandalised.

The Cambrian News reported “The yellow deckchair now has a massive rip in it following an incident on Monday night.

The vandalism has been reported to the Advancing Aberystwyth group, which brought in the deckchairs and created the sandpit on the site of the paddling pool.

The pool has been dogged with problems in recent years and after it was deemed too expensive to repair, it was filled in with sand and had two giant deckchairs placed on it.

Local councillor Ceredig Davies said while the decision to turn the paddling pool into a sandpit was still questionable, he said any vandalism was disappointing, especially when targeted at an attraction aimed at providing entertainment for residents and visitors.

He said: “It could be argued that the biggest act of vandalism to the paddling pool was the decision taken by the current county council administration not to have water in the pool this summer.

“This recent damage to the giant deckchair is a great shame.

“Why do people feel the need to destroy the efforts made by others?

“Roll on the time we will see the two CCTV cameras back up and running on the prom” here.
