Cambrian News photographer - Dr Elin Jones will run her first-ever 10k at Abersoch to raise money for a new chemotherapy unit at the hospital

A BRONGLAIS Hospital consultant will take on her first 10k run as she looks to raise money for a new chemotherapy unit at the hospital.

The Cambrian News reported “Dr Elin Jones, a locum consultant in oncology, will run her first-ever 10k run at Abersoch on Saturday, 2 June.

Dr Jones, who has set a fundraising target of £2,500, but is hoping to beat that having already raised £700, said: “Having never run before, I will be running 10k to raise money for the development of a chemotherapy unit at Bronglais.

“I am very proud to be the oncologist in an enthusiastic team looking after patients as they face their cancer diagnosis and treatment.

“To date, this has not been done in an environment deserving of these lovely brave people and their families.

“We have already been overwhelmed by good will and donations from the public, but to make this project a reality more funds are needed and this is my way of standing with the patients to make this happen and to have a private, pleasant area for patients and their friends and relatives to have their cancer treatment in mid Wales.”
