HOLDERS Aberystwyth University crashed out of the ER Jenkins Division Two Cup when suffering a 5-4 extra time exit at Abermule in the quarter-final.

The Cambrian News reported “The students looked well placed to continue their defence of the trophy when they eased into a 4-1 first half lead, with Owain ap Gareth scoring twice and James Watts and Liam Powell getting their other goals.

They had chances to have been even further clear, but Abermule stormed back in the second half to level matters at 4-4 in a remarkable turnaround, before scoring the winner in extra times.

David Anthony led the way with four goals and Charlie ‘Bosco’ Humphreys also netted as Mule marched on to the semi-final stage.

In Spar Mid Wales League division two action, the South Powys derby ended in an 4-0 win for Brecon Northcote away at Talgarth.

Joel Evans fired Northcote ahead early on, and Corey Evans curled a free kick into top corner from 25 yards to double the lead, after Jack Evans was hacked down on the edge of the penalty box.

A misplaced pass then let Joel Evans get around the back and beat the keeper to make it 3-0 on 25 minutes.

Both sides had chances before the break, but in the second half, from another free kick, Craig Evans scored a pile-driver that went in off the underside of the bar to seal their victory.

Llansantffraid moved to within two points of leaders Builth Wells as they produced a solid performance to beat Montgomery 4-1.
