POLICE have confirmed they are investigating damage caused to a giant deckchair at Aberystwyth’s new promenade sandpit.
Cambrian News reported “The deckchair, which was one of two placed in the sandpit created in the former paddling pool, was damaged sometime during Friday 3, August, and Saturday, 4 August.
The sandpit was provided by Advancing Aberystwyth, the company which decides how to spend money raised by a levy on business rates of companies within Aberystwyth’s Business Improvement District, and has been in place for around two months.
There is another month remaining of the licence the company was granted by Ceredigion County Council.
Police confirmed that an investigation into the damage is taking place and are appealing for information about the incident.
A spokesperson said: “A giant-sized deckchair on Aberystwyth Promenade has been damaged. The material of the seating area has been cut.
“Police are investigating the incident, which happened between 5pm on 3 August and 8pm on 4 August.
“Anyone with information that can help officers with their investigation is asked to report it by calling 101.”
Cllr Ceredig Davies criticised the culprits for causing damage at the new facility for the town.
