A MAN accused of setting fire to the Ty Belgrave Hotel in Aberystwyth has appeared before a judge at Swansea Crown Court.
Cambrian News reported “Damion Harris, 30, was expected to be asked to enter a plea.
But at the last moment his barrister, Stephen Rees, applied for the hearing to be delayed so that a psychiatrist could examine Harris and advise the court as to whether he was fit to stand trial.
Harris, of Llwynonn, Pwllhobi, Llanbadarn Fawr, is being held in custody at Swansea prison.
Judge Keith Thomas agreed to reschedule the plea and trial preparation hearing for 24 September.
Jim Davis, prosecuting, told a packed court that a man was still missing following the fire in the early hours of 25 July.
He said the missing guest had been staying downstairs and the blaze had caused the building to collapse to basement level.
It was still considered too dangerous to enter the ruins, he added, and specialist scaffolding would be required before a search could be conducted.
Mr Davis said the search could produce “a result within 24 hours or it could take substantially longer” here.
