Aberystwyth is facing major traffic problems with a spate of roadworks scheduled to take place on main roads in and out of the town.
Cambrian News reported “Roadworks will be taking place on almost all of the main roads on the approach to the town between the end of April and through May, including Alexandra Road, Thespian Street, Ffordd Sulien, Llanbadarn Road, Penparcau Road and Bridge Street at Trefechan Bridge.
The majority of the work is resurfacing and will see either traffic controls or road closures.
Alexandra Road and Thespian Street, the main route into the town centre from the north, will see the roads closed between 6pm and 6am from Thursday, 16 May and contractors suggest the work could take six days.
Traffic lights are currently operating on Ffordd Sulien until Friday, 26 April, and again between 15 and 22 May.
There will also be traffic controls on Llanbadarn Road between 20 May to 7 June, and on Penparcau Road between 7 and 22 May, with the road also closed for three days on Friday, 10 May, Monday, 13 May and Friday, 17 May.
Work will also take place on the roundabout at Southgate, with warnings that there will be “likely delays”.
But a Welsh Government spokesperson said that it was hoped the work would not cause too many problems for motorists.
They said: “The roadworks in Aberystwyth are for patching and resurfacing.
“The works are to deal with the network deterioration over the winter period and are covering safety defects.
“The works will be co-ordinated and programmed to minimise delays and disruptions to motorists” here.
