ABERYSTWYTH Town have made their first new summer signing, with experienced Welsh Premier League wing-back Steffan Edwards joining the club from Airbus UK Broughton.
The Cambrian News reported “The 28 year old had a previous spell with the club in 2010, making 32 appearances for Aber in the 2010/2011 season, including two appearances in the Europa League play-offs, scoring three goals during his stay.
A versatile player who can play left back or left midfield, it is hoped his experience will be very beneficial.
A Wales Under-18 international, he signed for Cefn Druids in 2008 after previous experience with Gresford, before moving to Welshpool in 2009, Aberystwyth in 2010 and then Bala Town in 2011.
He spent three years at Maes Tegid, before joining Newtown in 2014, and after three seasons at Latham Park, he joined Airbus in the Cymru Alliance last season.
“Steff joins with a wealth of Welsh Premier experience,” stated a club spokesman.
“He’s a Welsh Under 18s international, having also played with Welshpool, Bala and Newtown, and has made six appearances in the Europa League qualifiers.
“He’s scored nine goals in 175 Welsh Premier League appearances, and he spent last season with Airbus UK in the Huws Gray Alliance.
“Everyone at the club wishes to extend a warm welcome to Steff for his second spell at Park Avenue.”
Edwards’ addition comes as a welcome boost after news that Damien Allen had joined Newtown last week, although last season’s top scorer Declan Walker has committed for next season.
Aberystwyth’s first pre-season friendly match is at home against Welsh League (Wrexham Area) outfit Brickfield Rangers on 7 July.
Brickfield narrowly missed out on promotion to the Cymru Alliance last season, when they were pipped to the title by Buckley Town.
This will be followed 14 days later by a home fixture with Evo Stick League side Halesowen, and two away matches at Welsh League runners-up Haverfordwest and Cheshire League side Neston, before the Welsh Premier kicks-off on the second weekend in August” here.
