Supermarket chain Aldi has submitted plans to build a new store in Aberystwyth.
Cambrian News reported “The German company has this week submitted a planning application to Ceredigion County Council to build a store on the old Cambrian Garage and Kwik Save site on Park Avenue – a parcel of land the company has owned for nearly a decade.
The submitted proposals, if approved, would result in the construction of a modestly sized food store with a net sales area of 1,254m² and 85 car parking spaces, including dedicated disabled and parent and children parking.
A store on this site would create approximately 40 full and part-time permanent local jobs, which would be paid at an industry-leading rate.
There would also be additional employment opportunities during construction and via the supply chain.
The submission of the proposals follows on from the positive feedback received during the pre-application consultation period, which saw 91 per cent of respondents to Aldi’s consultation indicate that they supported the proposals for the Park Avenue site.
Aldi’s regional property director, Rob Jones said: “We would like to thank local residents and community stakeholders for providing their feedback during the public consultation period. We have worked hard to ensure that our submitted plans take into account the feedback we have received.”
He continued: “We remain committed to supporting the local community in which we operate and will work closely with local representatives as this application progresses.”
A decision from Ceredigion County Council is expected within the coming months. In the meantime, Aldi will keep residents and stakeholders informed of the progress of the proposals” here.
